Daily, thousands of people suffer from this sleeping disorder. Sleep apnea is the moments in your sleep where you have breathing pauses in your sleep, causes high blood pressure, cause daytime drowsiness and other factors. A fact to know is that approximately 40 million people in United States suffer from this disorder.

How can you tell if you suffer from sleep apnea and what happens? First factor is plain and simple; you can’t breath during your sleep. What causes this is when you normally inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide; carbon dioxide is not being released outside of your system, thus causing a build up of carbon dioxide in your body. Your brain then get’s the signal that there seems to be a problem.

Next thing to look for is when you wake up, do you all of a sudden gasp, inhale and exhale with deep breaths and quick breaths? What happens here is when you stop breathing, your brains immediately tells your air path muscles to open up, thus your breathing continues and a lot of the time you will notice a big gasp or a snort of some sort. Not 100% of the time you will wake up, sometimes you snort in your sleep without even knowing.

The next clue to look for is when you wake up, or anytime during the day, how tired are you? Sleep apnea normally does not let people get the deep, restorative sleep that a human being requires for the normal body maintenance work to commence, thus causing a lot of drowsiness, a lot of yawning and sleepiness. You should be very careful if you have to drive to work, or drive your kids to school or doing something that require traveling, you may want to consider car pooling with someone or seeing your doctor.

Final clue to look for is how healthy is your heart? You should know that during night time, your heart slows its blood operations down to re-build any damaged cells, tissues, etc. Sleep apnea will make your heart work harder during your sleep time if you suffer from this disorder by pumping your blood during the 6-8 hours of sleep that are needed. This also causes un-explainable headaches, future heart diseases and many other problems.
